VakifBank began their 2026 CEV Champions League campaign with a straight‑sets victory over Volero Le Cannet, underlining their ambitions to reclaim Europe’s top crown.
At the VakifBank Spor Sarayı in Istanbul, the Turkish giants had to work hard in the opening set, trailing for long stretches before turning it around in the closing rallies to edge 26-24.
Once settled, VakifBank imposed their rhythm: they controlled the second set 25-19 and closed the match with a confident 25-17 in the third.
Marina Markova delivered a phenomenal performance, scoring 26 points across the three sets and earning the MVP award. Markova was decisive in the first‑set comeback, unstoppable in attack, and the clear difference‑maker throughout the match. Her efficiency and consistency highlighted why VakifBank remain one of the most feared teams in Europe.
The Turkish powerhouse sent a strong message to rivals Imoco Conegliano and Fenerbahçe Medicana: they are ready to fight for the title once again.
