Claire Ammeraal, a dynamic setter from Madison La Follette High School in Wisconsin, transferred to the Iowa Hawkeyes volleyball team in January 2024 as a junior from Central Michigan University, where she had already made her mark with significant assists and attacks during her first two seasons.
A three-time all-conference honoree and 2021 Big Eight Player of the Year, Ammeraal joined a Hawkeye program and her arrival signaled the start of a new era under head coach Jim Barnes.
Barnes lauded her as one of the nation’s elite setters, highlighting her unique ability to pile up assists while also attacking, defending, and dominating across the stat sheet—qualities that made her the linchpin of Iowa’s revamped offense.
Despite a 2024 injury that sidelined her for nearly half the season, Ammeraal’s presence was transformative, evident in spring scrimmages where her setting prowess elevated the team’s play and helped integrate seven new transfers into a cohesive unit.
Returning exceptionally strong as a senior in 2025, Ammeraal powered Iowa’s competitive non-conference performance. Her standout showing against No. 7 Wisconsin, where she delivered 19 assists, six kills, and four digs, showcased her versatility and leadership.
