FEATURE: VakıfBank the team to beat in the 2025/26 Vodafone Sultanlar Ligi

VakıfBank Spor Kulübü enters the 2025/26 Vodafone Sultanlar Ligi as favorites after sweeping Fenerbahçe Medicana 3-0 in the 2024/25 playoff finals to claim their 14th title. Coached by Giovanni Guidetti, the Istanbul giants boast a legacy of dominance—five CEV Champions League titles and four Club World Championships, including a record 73-match unbeaten streak from 2012-14. With a star-packed roster and no major injuries, they’re poised to rule the one of the world’s toughest volleyball league again.
In 2024/25, VakıfBank ended a three-year title drought, defeating Fenerbahçe in the finals. Standouts included Kiera Van Ryk’s league-fastest serve (113 km/h) and Marina Markova’s 107 km/h spike, showcasing their technical edge via Vodafone’s 5G-powered stats. Their eighth title under Guidetti, who recovered from surgery in September 2025, reaffirms their status as the team to chase.

Key Roster
VakıfBank’s 2025/26 roster is a powerhouse, led by setter Cansu Özbay, the 2024/25 playoff MVP, whose precise assists drive the offense. Opposite Kiera Van Ryk, Canada’s scoring machine, racked up 581 points last season with a record 113 km/h serve. Outside hitter Tijana Bošković, a Serbian superstar, delivers explosive attacks, while middle blockers Chiaka Ogbogu and Marina Markova dominate the net with elite blocking and Markova’s 107 km/h spike. New signing Lucille Cazaute, a top French scorer, adds flair, and captain Zehra Güneş anchors the team with veteran leadership, making VakıfBank a formidable force in the Sultanlar Ligi and beyond.

Season Outlook

The 2025/26 schedule starts October 4 with Zeren at home, followed by derbies against Eczacıbaşı (Week 3), Fenerbahçe (Weeks 5 and 10), and Galatasaray (Week 4). VakıfBank’s depth, shown in a recent 3-2 friendly win over İstanbul BBSK, positions them to dominate.
They also eye the CEV Champions League aiming to progress well challenging Italy's giants and fellow Turkish rivals too.
With unmatched pedigree, Guidetti’s leadership, and a powerhouse roster, VakıfBank is the Sultanlar Ligi’s team to beat.
