Myriam Sylla talks about winning the World Championships and her move to Galatasaray

Myriam Sylla shone in Italy's 2025 FIVB World Championship win, scoring 19 points in a 3-2 final victory over Türkiye.

The 30-year-old outside hitter has left Vero Volley Milano and joined Galatasaray Daikin in the Sultanlar Ligi on a two-year deal.

The newly crowned world champion was interviewed by the Gazetta dello Sport.

Sylla, you've won practically everything with the national team. Is there a moment in your career that has given you the greatest joy?

This is because my teammates and I completed the job. I'm proud of the group and I'm proud of myself; I won everything.

You all took turns being the protagonists. Is this a group victory?

Everyone likes to be a protagonist, but you have to be good at collaborating. There can't be just one player who wins the game alone.

De Gennaro will no longer be playing for Italy next summer. Do you hope she changes his mind?

I don't feel like contradicting the choice of a woman who has won and done so much for Italy. If she's made her decision, that's fine with me. I'm sure of one thing: I'll miss her terribly. As a national team, we'll lose a piece of our heart, an important pillar of our team.

Who is the strongest opponent you have faced in your career?

Gabi. She's incredibly good at interpreting the game and reading it. After the semifinal, I asked her for the jersey because she's my sister's favorite player.

What convinced you to embark on the adventure at Galatasaray?

Turkey recognizes players for who they are. I've never chased money. Abroad, they've always offered me double the salary I earned in Italy, but I've always thought that promoting our league was crucial.

I've played for important, ambitious clubs. I've had great teammates. So I absolutely can't complain. Now the time has come to try an experience abroad.
