The real kickoff of the American college volleyball season arrives with the AVCA First Serve Showcase 2026. This opening event gathers several of the nation's top programs at Milwaukee's Fiserv Forum to jumpstart the regular season. Notably absent from this opening tournament are the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
From the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the reigning national champions, the Texas A&M Aggies, look to defend their crown. Right behind them are their in-state rivals, the Texas Longhorns, aiming to establish themselves in their new conference home with a balanced wing attack, while the Kentucky Wildcats return focused on clearing the final hurdle after finishing as national runners-up.
Representing the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), the Pittsburgh Panthers carry strong title ambitions with a highly competitive roster. They are joined by the Louisville Cardinals, a physical team and regular Final Four contender looking to make an early statement, alongside the SMU Mustangs, an ambitious program eager to prove they can consistently compete with the conference elite.
The Wisconsin Badgers, on the other hand, are the only representative of the Big Ten Conference—often seen as the most demanding one.
The remaining field features regional and conference challengers, led by the Arizona State Sun Devils, last year's breakout team eager to prove themselves in their new Big 12 home.
They are complemented by the Marquette Golden Eagles, local favorites looking to capitalize on playing in Milwaukee, and the Xavier Musketeers, who enter the tournament highly motivated to challenge top-ranked opposition.
