The Arizona State Women's Volleyball team has quietly become one of the most successful programs in the Big 12 Conference.
Under head coach JJ Van Niel, the Sun Devils have won back-to-back conference titles, taking the Big 12 crown in both 2024 and 2025.
The 2025 season was particularly impressive, as Arizona State went 17–1 in conference play and finished 28–4 overall, reaching the NCAA Sweet 16. What once looked like a strong conference program is now starting to look like a team with ambitions on the national stage.
The beginning of the 2026 season has only strengthened that feeling. Ranked No. 12 in the AVCA preseason poll, Arizona State opened its campaign at the AVCA First Serve against No. 2 Texas and came away with a convincing 3–1 victory.
The Sun Devils followed that performance with a 3–0 sweep of No. 14 Minnesota before falling to No. 20 USC. 
Beating a team of Texas’ caliber so early in the season immediately put Arizona State on the national radar and showed that last year’s success was no fluke.
A big part of the excitement around the team comes from its attacking options. Noemie Glover, the 2025 Big 12 Player of the Year and an AVCA First-Team All-American, remains the player to watch after recording 423 kills last season.
Una Vajagić, a transfer from Wisconsin, has already made an impression, posting 20 kills against Minnesota, while Aniya Clinton, who transferred from Kansas State, gives Arizona State another reliable offensive option. 
Together, they give the Sun Devils a balanced attack with several players capable of taking over a match.

Arizona State may not be one of the clear favorites for the national championship just yet, but that is not what makes them dangerous.
They have become a team that is difficult to play against and capable of surprising virtually any national title contender on the right night.

With two straight Big 12 championships, growing NCAA experience and an increasingly talented roster, the Sun Devils have earned their place among the teams that no one will want to face when the tournament arrives.
