The Race for Macao

The preliminary phase of the 2026 Women's VNL reaches its climax during Week 3. Since China (8th) is automatically qualified as the Finals host in Macao, only the top seven teams from the standings will advance.
The USA (1st), Brazil (2nd), and Italy (3rd) dominate the top spots, while Japan (5th) and Turkey (6th) need only a few points to mathematically secure their berths.
However, Poland (4th) is caught in a brutal calendar trap. They face a merciless gauntlet against Turkey, the USA, Brazil, and Japan back-to-back, leaving them heavily exposed to a physical collapse.
This vulnerability puts maximum pressure on Canada (7th), who holds the final open playoff spot. With China playing pressure-free in Hong Kong, the Netherlands (9th) are poised to pounce and steal the final ticket if Canada or Poland falters.
The Relegation Dogfight
At the bottom of the table, teams are fighting to avoid finishing last among the challenger nations to escape automatic relegation. France (18th) is in the most desperate position as the current cellar-dwellers.
They must execute a near-flawless run in Serbia to leapfrog the Dominican Republic (17th) and Bulgaria (16th), both of whom face a high-stakes week where every dropped set could mean demotion.
Adding to the drama, a high-stakes head-to-head match between France and Bulgaria is scheduled this week, making it a direct and decisive battle for survival in the VNL.
