Megabox Vallefoglia has officially captured its first-ever European trophy, securing the prestigious CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup title after a dominant final performance against Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos Athens.
The Italian side completed their continental campaign in spectacular fashion, backing up a tightly contested 3-2 first-leg victory on their home floor in Italy with a definitive 3-0 sweep (25-20, 27-25, 25-16) in the decisive second leg in Athens to seal the historic crown.
The foundation of Vallefoglia’s European coronation was built during a grueling first leg at home. Faced with immense tactical pressure from the Greek side, Megabox relied heavily on the lethal offensive output of opposite Erblira Bici and the steady brilliance of outside hitter Gaia Giovannini.
Bici acted as the team's primary offensive engine, anchoring the front row with heavy scoring, while Giovannini delivered a masterclass in tactical balance. Giovannini's relentless defensive stability, elite reception under pressure, and smart counter-attacks earned her the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors for the opening match, turning the tide of the entire tie.
With the psychological advantage secured from the opening home victory, Megabox traveled to Greece to finish the job in a hostile environment. Faced with a roaring crowd of 3,000 passionate Greek fans in Athens, Vallefoglia displayed incredible discipline, completely deflating Panathinaikos' defense from the very first whistle.
The tactical cohesion between Bici's ruthless execution and Giovannini's all-around consistency allowed Megabox to sweep the hosts in straight sets. This monumental milestone showcases the club's meteoric rise on the European stage, marking the definitive moment that delivered Megabox its first major continental trophy in women's volleyball history.
