The 2026 League One Volleyball season began with a remake of last year’s final, as reigning champions LOVB Austin hosted runners-up LOVB Nebraska at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park. In a true five-set thriller, the two sides traded momentum before Austin secured the opening win 22–25, 25–20, 22–25, 25–22, 15–9.

Nebraska struck first by taking the opening set, while Austin answered in the second with steadier serve-receive and blocking. Nebraska regained the lead in the third through quick tempo and transition play, but Austin responded in the fourth with improved defensive reads and offensive rhythm to force a deciding set. The fifth frame saw Austin jump ahead early and never trail, closing out the match with energy and composure.

Logan Eggleston led with 18 kills, 13 digs, and two blocks, while Madisen Skinner added 17 kills and newcomer Madi Banks contributed 16. Middles Bella Bergmark and Asjia O’Neal combined for 15 kills on strong efficiency.

Nebraska showed resilience throughout the contest and pushed Austin to the limit. Kimberly Drewniok was particularly impressive, scoring 26 points and consistently challenging Austin’s defense. Despite her standout performance, Nebraska was unable to close out the match, as Austin’s depth and late momentum carried the champions to a dramatic opening win, starting the season 1–0.
