Nebraska faced an unlucky and heartbreaking year in women’s volleyball in 2025. Three different teams looked strong and came close to winning major titles.
The Huskers in the NCAA, the Supernovas in the PVF, and LOVB Omaha in the new League One Volleyball all had the talent and the support of their fans. Yet, despite being so close, not a single championship trophy made its way back to Nebraska.
NCAA: The Perfect season vanishes
The Nebraska Huskers were an absolute powerhouse, tearing through the regular season and the Big Ten with a flawless 33-0 record.
Harper Murray and her teammates looked invincible as the #1 overall seed, but the dream of an undefeated NCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship title died in a brutal five-set thriller against Texas A&M in the Elite Eight.
PVF: The defending champs toppled
In the Pro Volleyball Federation, the Omaha Supernovas proved their 2024 title was no fluke by clinching the 2025 regular-season crown with a league-best 21-7 record and an unprecented fan support at the CHI Health Center.
Led by team captain Brooke Nuneviller, they were the heavy favorites to repeat, but they were stunned in the semifinals by the #4 seed Indy Ignite in a five-set heartbreaker.
LOVB: So close, yet so far
The inaugural League One Volleyball (LOVB) season saw LOVB Omaha fight their way all the way to the grand finale, pushed on by Team USA legend Jordan Larson.
However, the Nebraska crowd watched in silence as LOVB Austin swept Omaha 3-0 in the championship match decider.
The Huskers, Supernovas, and LOVB Omaha all showed they could compete at the highest level. It was a year of heartbreak, but also a reminder that Nebraska will be back and ready to chase trophies again.
