The middle blockers to follow in the 2025-2026 Sultanlar Ligi

The Vodafone Sultanlar Ligi, Turkey’s premier women’s volleyball league, is a global powerhouse, and its middle blockers are among the best in the world. As the 2025-2026 season approaches (kicking off October 4, 2025), the spotlight is on the net-dominating middle blockers who combine elite blocking, quick attacks, and leadership to shape their teams’ fates.

Based on their standout performances and their expected impact this year, here are the four middle blockers to watch in the Sultanlar Ligi. These players, drawn from top clubs like Vakıfbank, Fenerbahçe Medicana, and Eczacıbaşı Dynavit, are set to define the season with their prowess at the net.

Eda Erdem Dündar

At 38, Eda remains a titan. Her experience (14+ years with Fenerbahçe) and ability to deliver in high-stakes matches—coupled with her leadership as Turkey’s national team captain—make her a must-watch.

Expect her to anchor Fenerbahçe’s push to reclaim the title.

Zehra Güneş

The 26-year-old is a rising global star. Her blocking dominance (often leading the league with ~1.2 blocks/set) and quick attacks were pivotal in Vakıfbank’s 2024-2025 championship.

She’s poised to shine in both the Sultanlar Ligi and the Champions League.

Chiaka Ogbogu

A proven winner, Ogbogu’s return to Vakıfbank after a brief LOVB stint adds firepower. Her Olympic pedigree and ability to disrupt opponents’ attacks (with 1.1 blocks/set) make her a game-changer for Vakıfbank’s title defense.

Dana Rettke

The tallest middle blocker in the league at 6'10", Rettke’s reach and timing make her a blocking machine.

Reunited with Eczacıbaşı, she’s set to elevate their net defense and complement their high-powered offense in a bid for the championship.
